Vereen could see more work in the Patriots offense

This upcoming season, running back Shane Vereen could have bigger role for the New England Patriots now the team is needing to rebuild their offense. The Patriots have already tried lining up running back Shane Vereen wide during the team’s spring practice.

The Patriots currently have huge voids in their lineups what with the legal issues with a former tight end and the possible absence of Rob Gronkowski due to medical concerns. This offseason, the Patriots also lost Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd, giving Tom Brady limited options in the passing game with newly acquired, yet injury-prone, Danny Amendola joining Julian Edelman, Michael Jenkins, and Lavelle Hawkins.

Last season, Vereen saw just 14 pass targets but has experience as a route runner from his days playing at California. If Gronkowski isn’t available for Week 1 of the season, he could see more work in 2013 makes him worth keeping an eye on for fantasy owners. Definitely class him as a deep sleeper with potential.
